For a small Binghamton electronics manufacturer, the recession of the early ‘90s came with the challenge of off shore countries offering extremely low pricing. Our President and CEO Mark Hotchkiss knew it would be difficult to compete in price wars and survive. His strategy was to give the best possible service to existing customers by challenging all employees to put themselves in the customer's shoes. Truly understanding the delivery requirements of each account would allow us to exceed expectations and achieve organic growth.
Being dependent on a small customer base was not an easy road. Sacrifices were made while watching long time competitors close their doors or consolidate with other businesses outside the Binghamton area. Through it, EMS evolved the company’s culture to focus on serving the needs of companies with very dynamic requirements.
It all began when Stow Manufacturing won a contract to inspect IBM’s microchips in the late ‘60s. Through the decades EMS’s technical capabilities evolved to keep up with the fast pace changes in technology. EMS has now been operating for 50 years! With a vision to grow and expand services, we’ve developed a reputation for reliability, allowing us to nurture new business while investing in new surface mount assembly equipment.
Today EMS supports a full suite of printed circuit board solutions, from the legacy thru-hole insertion, surface mount onsertion, manual assembly, various soldering technologies, electrical testing, conformal coating and other value-added services. As a result of providing transparent pricing and rapid response, EMS has maintained long standing customer partnerships, some spanning more than 30 years.
As the calendar approaches 2020, EMS has added customers, equipment, volume, and even next generation employees to carry the torch into the future. We welcome partnerships from OEM companies locally or of the greater Northeast in need of our electronics expertise.
